A Luxurious Retreat
Situated on the Welsh border, between Chester and Wrexham, the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. Once both a working farm and a coaching inn, it is now a smart 4 star hotel, part of the family-owned Nelson Hotels & Inns collection.
Set in tranquil grounds with ponds and water features, the hotel offers stylish public areas, spacious rooms and a choice of dining options. But its standout feature is the spa facilities, with a full range of activities and treatments, and an exquisite sensory garden for guests to unwind in.
Rooms At The Grosvenor Pulford
The hotel has 75 individually styled bedrooms, catering for every type of traveller. I stayed in a Superior room, which was generously sized with a large bed and a comfy couch, as well as a separate area with desk and wardrobe. The bathroom came with a surprise – a flat-screen TV above the bath for a leisurely soak!
The décor was elegant yet comfortable and the room had everything I needed for my stay. There was a coffee machine and hospitality tray with drinks and snacks. And – always useful if you’ve got work to do – fast, free wi-fi.
Spa And Sensory Garden
The Spa by Kasia is a sumptuous area with a full range of treatments and leisure facilities. You can take a swim, sit in the sauna or the steam room, or simply chill in the lounge area. There is also a small but well equipped gym.
But even if you don’t use the leisure facilities you shouldn’t miss the Asian Sensory Garden. This is a beautifully realised outdoor space designed to appeal to all the senses – from the sculptures and colourful plants, to the fragrant flowers, and to the sounds of crunching gravel and running water. I had the place to myself when I visited, making it the perfect place to relax and recharge.
Eating And Drinking At The Grosvenor Pulford
The hotel offers two distinct venues for food and drink. The elegant Palm Court Restaurant is a light-filled space with palm trees. A buffet-style breakfast is served here, and later in the day it serves brunch, afternoon tea and gourmet dinners. On some days you can even enjoy live music with your evening meal.
For a more casual experience you can enjoy a drink or a bar meal at the nautically themed Nelson’s Bar. This is a gastropub with an extensive range of rather superior “pub classics”.
Enjoying Your Stay
With comfortable rooms and a choice of restaurants, beautiful grounds and luxury leisure facilities, you might be tempted to spend much of your time in the hotel itself. But if you want to venture further afield you will be spoilt for choice. For many visitors the major attraction will be the city of Chester, where you can enjoy historic sites, river trips and much more.
But you could also explore the Cheshire countryside, or the cities of Liverpool and Manchester. Or venture into north Wales, with the town of Wrexham, historic castles, hills and coastline…

- The hotel is 60 km from Manchester Airport.
- It is 8 km from Chester city centre and 12 km from Wrexham.
- The Grosvenor Pulford is well connected by public transport, with regular buses to Chester and Wrexham passing in front of the hotel.
- The hotel has a large car park.
- There are 75 rooms, and you can choose between Classic, Executive, Deluxe and Superior.
- A number of rooms are situated on the ground floor. Have a look at the website for the hotel’s accessibility policy.
- Hotel guests can use the spa, although extra charges will apply for treatments and some facilities. Note that the Asian Sensory Garden is reserved for spa guests at certain times of day.
