A Historic House And A Modern Hotel
Milford Hall is the best of both worlds: a historic Grade II listed Georgian mansion house combined with a light and airy contemporary extension. It is located on Castle Street, just a short walk from the city centre and has a large car park (anyone familiar with trying to park in Salisbury will know what a benefit this is). And it offers comfortable rooms, attentive service and good food too.
The hotel has been renovated, and further improvements are on the way. It has joined the IHG hotel group and is now part of the prestigious voco brand, with its emphasis upon excellence, customer service and a welcoming touch.
Staying At The Milford Hall Hotel
We stayed in the modern extension, but when the refurbishment is complete it will also be possible to stay in the original Georgian house. Our room was comfortable and very quiet. It was well equipped with a coffee machine and bottled water, and I appreciated having a desk to work at and free wifi.
Milford Hall is fully equipped for conferences and business meetings. It can also cater for weddings and larger family gatherings.
Eating And Drinking At Milford Hall
Sarum’s Brasserie and Bar is an elegant space that promises excellent food, drink and service. We ate in the restaurant where the food was delicious and attractively presented. The longer term aim is to provide a more extensive menu, with extra choices for vegetarians and vegans, and there is a welcome commitment to sourcing ingredients locally wherever possible. Sunday lunch and afternoon tea are also available.
The stylish bar area has an outdoor patio where you can sit in fine weather. There is also a more secluded lounge for those seeking a quiet space. The bar offers a range of classic cocktails and craft gins, as well as a selection of premium teas. As with the restaurant there is an emphasis upon local suppliers.
A Great Future Ahead
I chatted to Norman Cardoso, the recently appointed general manager, about his vision for the future. Norman has an impressive track record with the voco brand and with other premium hotels both at home and abroad, and he is enthusiastic about the future of Milford Hall.
The voco concept is “the charm of an individual hotel with the reassurance of a big brand”. Norman backs this up, adding that “the team is at the heart of everything we do”. His philosophy is based around excellent service and welcoming staff, creating a friendly and luxurious experience for every visitor.
It seems that the Milford Hall Hotel has a great future ahead, and I look forward to making a return visit.

- Milford Hall Hotel is on Castle Street, a short distance from the city centre. It is an easy walk of around 10 minutes to the Market Place, either along the road or by the river.
- The hotel has a car park; there is a small charge for overnight parking.
